With the end of classes in June, the Paron community in Saline County will find itself without any schools. On April 20, the Bryant School Board voted to shut down Paron Elementary School, which is a part of Bryant Public Schools, as part of a $3 million in district budget cuts.
“[The parents] are very sad of course,” Paron Elementary Principal Karen Metcalf says. “A lot of the parents were Paron High School graduates.”
Paron’s high school shut down in 2006, two years after the Paron Independent School District was absorbed into the Bryant School District. Metcalf says the last official graduating class of the Paron School District was in 2004.
