On Saturday, Cushman marks the 25th anniversary of Miners Day. The small town will celebrate its past starting with a school reunion on Friday and a parade, activities and street dance on Saturday.
Central to the event is the honoring of two grand marshals. This year’s grand marshals are both men who have deep Cushman roots and ties to its once-thriving mining business — Arby Fulbright, 85, and Pete Hamilton, 75, both residents of Cushman.
While farming and timber had always been central to Cushman’s local economy, it’s the mines that first put it on the map.
