Quorum court – Sheriff wants to bring back narcotics unit

They took their oaths, then got down to business.

Independence County court and municipal officials were sworn in on Monday, followed by the first quorum court meeting of 2017.

Officials were sworn in by new Circuit Judge Don McSpadden, who started things off with Independence County Judge Robert Griffin who begins his fourth, and final, two-year term as judge. This isn’t to say it’s actually his final term as county judge, but, come 2018, county judges in Arkansas will run for four-year terms instead of two.

Also sworn in Monday were municipal officials from the cities of Southside, Batesville and Newark. Several sheriff’s deputies, constables and jail nurse Glenda Rose were sworn in as well. It is customary for employees of the jail and sheriff’s office to be sworn in because they are working for the public.
