Patriotism is a calling that is different for a lot of people. It inspires some to send money, others to work on political campaigns, others to enlist for military service and for some, to board a motorcycle.
Larry and Brenda Nelson spoke to the Batesville Rotary Club at Kelly Wyatt’s Restaurant last Monday about the latter. Both Nelsons are members of a group of bikers across the nation call the Patriot Guard Riders.
PGR is an organization based in the United States whose members attend the funerals of those who have served in the U.S. military, firefighters and police at the invitation of a deceased’s family.
The Nelsons gave a presentation consisting of a little text and a lot of photos. The photos displayed their trips across the region as part of the Patriot Guard Riders.
“When we bought our first motorcycle in 2011, the previous owner told us about a group that stood flag lines at funeral services for veterans,” Larry said.
That’s how he learned of the Patriot Guard Riders.
