Soon, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will be no more. In a few weeks it will be replaced with the Arkansas Department of Transportation, or simply ARDoT.

Coming along for that change is District 5 Engineer Bruce Street.

Street was the last guest to speak to the Batesville Rotary Club at Kelley Wyatt’s before they started their new club year with new officers.

“I am soon to be the former district engineer for District 5,” Street started out. This doesn’t mean that he is going to be joining the unemployment line, though.

AHTD officially becomes ARDoT July 31. The name change comes with a rebranding and will be using a new logo when the name takes effect.

After July 31, Street will see his title change to fit the new ARDoT rebranding.

“The rebranding is to bring us in line with D.C.,” said Danny Straessle, public information officer for AHTD, who spoke to the Guard the day after Street’s presentation. “All documents in D.C. refer to the ‘Departments of Transportation.’”
